Urinary stress incontinence is caused by conditions such as childbirth and weight gain that stretch and weaken the pelvic floor muscles. These weaker muscles can no longer fully support the bladder, causing it to drop slightly and push against the vagina . When you can’t fully tighten the muscles that normally closes off the urethra, urine may leak when you cough, laugh, jump, sneeze, or do other activities. This is the most common type of urinary incontinence in women.
